Searches for London to Henley are mostly about the train from Paddington, and Henley Royal Regatta is the reason most of them peak in summer. The town is small, the regatta is large, and for six days the roads and platforms feel it. This page covers the options and how a chauffeur fits.
Henley Royal Regatta: what it is and when it runs
Henley Royal Regatta is a rowing regatta on the Thames at Henley-on-Thames in Oxfordshire. The course runs alongside the Berkshire bank, and spectators watch from the enclosures and the towpath. It is as much a social occasion as a sporting one. The regatta lists the 2027 dates as Tuesday 29 June to Sunday 4 July on the Henley Royal Regatta website. Tickets for the enclosures go on sale in spring, according to the regatta.
The Stewards’ Enclosure has a strict dress code. For women it is a dress or skirt that falls below the knee, or a jacket or blazer with trousers; for men a lounge suit or a jacket and tie. Shorts, jeans and tracksuits are not allowed, according to the official dress code page. Check the details for your enclosure before you go.
London to Henley: train, taxi or car
Train. Trains run from London Paddington to Henley-on-Thames, usually changing at Twyford, and GWR runs a special timetable during the regatta. The regatta’s travel page says the enclosures are within walking distance of the station and town. See GWR’s Henley Royal Regatta page for times.
Bus and taxi. The nearest bus station is in the town centre, a short walk from the enclosures. The main taxi drop-off is on the A4130, about five minutes from the enclosures, and the town centre is another drop-off point, according to the regatta.
Car. Official car parks are managed by the regatta, and daily parking has to be booked in advance or bought on arrival if space remains. A one-way system operates in Henley during the regatta. The regatta publishes traffic flow maps; we do not quote parking charges here, because the regatta sets them.

| Change needed | Often at Twyford | No | No |

Your chauffeur at Henley: how the day works
With hourly hire, the car and chauffeur are yours for the hours you book. The chauffeur collects you from your home or hotel in London, drives to Henley by a route that avoids the worst of the town centre and drops you where the regatta tells chauffeurs to drop. For guests of the Stewards’ Enclosure the regatta’s travel page describes a drop-off at the main entrance and an organised pick-up area.
The honest caveat: the regatta has an official chauffeur partner with its own lounge and pick-up point, and the page recommends pre-booking for journeys from outside London. We are not that partner, so we plan your meeting point from the regatta’s published arrangements for your ticket and tell you exactly where to find the car. Send us your ticket type when you ask for a quote.
The chauffeur waits through the racing, and you decide when to leave. If the afternoon turns into a long lunch, nothing needs changing except an additional hour on the booking.
What a London to Henley chauffeur costs
Henley is beyond the M25, so the outside-London hourly rate applies: £70 an hour in an E-Class, £85 in an S-Class or V-Class and £105 in a Range Rover, with a 4-hour minimum, VAT included.
For a day at the regatta we estimate 8 hours (1 hour each way plus six hours on site): £560 in an E-Class, £680 in an S-Class or V-Class and £840 in a Range Rover. The figure is for the whole car, not per person, and is agreed before you book. A V-Class takes up to 8 passengers, so a party can share it. The prices page has the full table.
Which car for Henley
The E-Class or BMW 5 Series takes up to 3 passengers. The S-Class or BMW 7 Series also takes 3, with more rear space for formal dress. The Range Rover takes up to 4. The V-Class or VW Transporter takes up to 8. A Mercedes Sprinter minibus carries up to 16 and is quoted on request; see coach and minibus hire.
Make a day of the Thames
Henley sits in a stretch of the Thames valley with pleasant towns nearby. If you have time on either side of the regatta, Marlow is a short drive up the river, and Windsor is on the way back to London. For the rest of the summer, our pages for Royal Ascot and Goodwood work the same way.
From Heathrow, Henley is 24 miles, about 35 minutes without traffic. See our Heathrow airport transfer page if you are arriving by air; the first hour of waiting on airport pick-ups is free.
How to book your London to Henley driver
- Use the form below or our contact page with your date, ticket type, pick-up address and passengers.
- Tell us whether you need a return from the regatta or a one-way journey.
- We send a fixed price, VAT included, with the right car.
- Your chauffeur arrives at the agreed time and waits through the day.
Timing the day at Henley
Racing runs through the day, so most visitors arrive late morning and stay until the evening. Allow for the slow approach to the town: the one-way system, the car parks and the walk to the enclosures all add time. If you have lunch booked or a hospitality package, tell us the start time and we will work back from it.
For the finals weekend, expect heavier traffic on the M4, the A404(M) and the roads into Henley, both in the morning and when the racing ends. Leaving a little after the last race, once the crowds have thinned, is often quicker than rushing for the exit. With a chauffeur you can make that choice on the day without worrying about a train timetable.
Tips for regatta day
Read the regatta’s travel and parking page before you go, as drop-off points and traffic arrangements are updated each year. Allow extra time on the finals weekend. Check the dress code for your enclosure, and pack a layer for the evening by the river.
