If you are asking how to get to Goodwood Festival of Speed, you have three realistic choices: a train and shuttle, driving yourself into the event’s car parks, or a chauffeur. This page covers all three using Goodwood’s own travel advice.
Goodwood: the Festival of Speed and the Revival
Goodwood hosts two big motoring events each year. The Festival of Speed is a long weekend in July at Goodwood House, in West Sussex, where cars and bikes of every era run up the hill climb. Goodwood says the 2027 Festival of Speed takes place on 15 to 18 July 2027, in its 2027 dates announcement. The Goodwood Revival is a historic motor racing weekend at the Goodwood Motor Circuit, and Goodwood says the 2027 Revival is on 17 to 19 September 2027, according to its Revival dates page.
The two events differ in dress. The Festival of Speed is relaxed, with comfortable outdoor clothes and shoes. At the Revival, many visitors dress in period clothes, which is part of the event. Check the official site for the rules for your ticket.
How to get to Goodwood Festival of Speed by train
Goodwood’s getting here page says to take a train to Chichester, about 1 hour 30 minutes from London, with a change at Havant from London Waterloo or direct services from London Victoria. A shuttle bus then runs between Chichester station and the event, and the page says there is a cost for bus services. National Rail’s Goodwood page says the shuttle ticket is bought on the day and is not included in a rail or event ticket.
Trains and shuttle queues are busy on the Saturday and Sunday, and the return journey at the end of the day is the hardest. Plan extra time, and check the shuttle hours on the official page so you do not miss the last one.
How to get to Goodwood Festival of Speed by car
Goodwood uses a planned road network for arrivals, and its page tells drivers not to follow their satnav but to follow the event signs to the nearest car park. Parking on the approach roads is not allowed at any time. Car parks open early in the morning, overnight parking is not permitted, and general parking arrangements are on the official page, which changes between years. We do not quote any charge here.
From London the usual route runs south on the A3 and then onto the A27 near Chichester, though the organisers’ signs take precedence on the day. Leave early: arrivals are funnelled through the planned road network and the queue builds towards the gates from the morning.
A chauffeur to Goodwood: how the day works
With hourly hire, the car and chauffeur are yours for the hours you book. The chauffeur collects you from your home or hotel, drives to Goodwood and drops you at the designated taxi and chauffeur point. Goodwood’s page names Gate 1 as the designated drop-off and pick-up area for taxis, and we follow the organiser’s arrangements for your ticket and year.
The chauffeur waits while you watch the cars and walk the paddocks, and you leave when you want. The caveat is the same as for any large event: the roads near the estate are busy at the end of the day, and the chauffeur plans around the published routes. Send us your ticket type and we will confirm the meeting point before the day.
The Revival and other Goodwood weekends
The same advice applies to the Revival in September, with a different crowd and different dress. Goodwood runs a travel page for the Revival, and its arrangements for shuttles, parking and drop-off can differ from the Festival of Speed. We plan each booking from the page for the event you are attending, then confirm the meeting point with you before the day.
Why a chauffeur helps on a long day
The Festival of Speed is a day of walking between paddocks, the hill climb and the displays, often in sun or rain. Not having to think about the car park or the shuttle queue at the end of the day is the main benefit. A group that includes someone who would like to enjoy the day without driving, or who has mobility limits, will usually find the drop-off at the gate far easier than a long walk from a field car park.
What a Goodwood chauffeur costs
Goodwood is beyond the M25, so the outside-London hourly rate applies: £70 an hour in an E-Class, £85 in an S-Class or V-Class and £105 in a Range Rover, with a 4-hour minimum, VAT included.
For a day at the Festival of Speed we estimate 10.5 hours (1 hour 40 minutes each way plus seven hours on site): £735 in an E-Class, £893 in an S-Class or V-Class and £1,103 in a Range Rover. The price is for the whole car, not per person, and is agreed before you book. A V-Class takes up to 8 passengers, so a group of friends can share it. The prices page has the full table.
Which car for Goodwood
The E-Class or BMW 5 Series and the S-Class or BMW 7 Series take up to 3 passengers. The Range Rover takes up to 4. The V-Class or VW Transporter takes up to 8. A Mercedes Sprinter minibus carries up to 16 and is quoted on request; see coach and minibus hire.
Coming from Heathrow, and other stops
Heathrow is 58 miles from Goodwood, about 1 hour 15 minutes without traffic. If you are flying in for the event, we can collect you at the airport; see our Heathrow airport transfer page. The first hour of waiting on airport pick-ups is free.
Goodwood sits near Arundel and Brighton, so some visitors add a night or a day on the coast. For another motorsport weekend, see our Silverstone British Grand Prix page, and the best day trips from London by car guide for other ideas.
How to book your Goodwood chauffeur
- Use the form below or our contact page with your date, ticket type, pick-up address and passengers.
- Tell us which event you are attending and whether you need a one-way or return journey.
- We send a fixed price, VAT included, with the right car.
- Your chauffeur arrives at the agreed time and waits at the estate.
Book early for the Festival of Speed and the Revival, because they are the busiest weekends of the year for this part of Sussex. Check the Goodwood website a few days before for the latest travel and parking notices, and pack for the weather, because the estate is open and exposed.
