Searches for London to Silverstone are mostly about trains, buses and how to avoid the F1 traffic. The truthful answer is that Silverstone is in the countryside near Towcester, with no station on site, so every route has a last leg. That is where a chauffeur earns its place.
The British Grand Prix at Silverstone
The British Grand Prix is a round of the Formula 1 season held at Silverstone Circuit in Northamptonshire. The race weekend runs from Friday to Sunday, with practice, qualifying and the race itself. Silverstone says the 2027 race weekend is Friday 2 to Sunday 4 July 2027, in its F1 2027 calendar news. Dates can change, so check the official Silverstone site before booking.
There is no dress code. Wear comfortable shoes and weatherproof layers, because the walk from car parks and bus drop-offs can be long and the weather is unpredictable.
London to Silverstone: train, bus, helicopter or car
Train. The circuit’s getting here page names Wolverton as the closest station, about 10 miles away, with direct services to London Euston. Banbury, Milton Keynes and Northampton are all under 13 miles away. You then need a taxi or bus for the last stretch, and the circuit advises booking return taxis in advance.
Bus and coach. Stagecoach runs local services for key events, paid to the driver on the day, with the drop-off close to the circuit entrance. Services can be very busy at large events. Operators also run dedicated coaches for the Grand Prix; check the official site for the current options.
Park and ride and air. Turweston Flight Centre, about 6.9 miles away, has a park and ride shuttle for the Formula 1 British Grand Prix. The circuit also lists helicopter transfers through Air Charter Service.
Car. From London you use the M40 and A43. The circuit warns of roadworks on the A43 between Towcester and Silverstone, so follow its latest advice. Car parks open up to 30 minutes before the gates, and prices are on the event page.

How a chauffeur works on race weekend
Hourly hire means the car and driver are yours for the booked hours. Your chauffeur collects you from home or a hotel in London, drives you to the circuit by the route the organisers recommend and drops you at the point they publish for your ticket and car. The driver then waits, and when you are ready to leave you meet the car at the agreed point.
The drop-off and pick-up arrangements for private cars on race weekend are published by Silverstone in its event travel and parking guide, which varies by ticket and year. Send us your ticket type and we will plan around the official advice, then tell you where to meet.
The honest limit: nothing makes F1 traffic disappear. The roads around Towcester are busy on race day. A chauffeur takes the stress out of finding your way and parking, but the queue to leave still exists, and we plan the day with that in mind.
What a Silverstone chauffeur costs
Silverstone is beyond the M25, so the outside-London hourly rate applies: £70 an hour in an E-Class, £85 in an S-Class or V-Class and £105 in a Range Rover, with a 4-hour minimum, VAT included.
For a race day we estimate 11.5 hours (1 hour 45 minutes each way plus eight hours at the circuit): £805 in an E-Class, £978 in an S-Class or V-Class and £1,208 in a Range Rover. The price is for the whole car, not per person, and is agreed before you book. A V-Class takes up to 8 passengers, so a group of friends or a corporate party can share it. See the prices page for the full table.
A longer day, an overnight stay or a Friday and Sunday booking is quoted on request.
Which car for Silverstone
- E-Class or BMW 5 Series takes up to 3 passengers.
- S-Class or BMW 7 Series takes up to 3 with more rear space for a long day.
- V-Class or VW Transporter takes up to 8, good for a group of fans or guests.
- Range Rover takes up to 4, with a high seat that is easy to get into after a long day on your feet.
- Mercedes Sprinter minibus takes up to 16 and is quoted on request; see coach and minibus hire.
Coming from Heathrow
Heathrow is 69 miles from Silverstone, about 1 hour 20 minutes without traffic. If you are flying in for the race, we can collect you and drive straight to the circuit or to your hotel. See our Heathrow airport transfer page, where the first hour of waiting is free. Other airports are quoted on request.
Where to stay and when to leave
Many people stay overnight near the circuit, in Northampton, Towcester, Buckingham, Oxford or Milton Keynes, and then use a bus or taxi on race days. Rooms around the circuit are booked up early. If you prefer to sleep in London, the long day is the cost: an early start and a late return after the race.
Whichever way you stay, plan around the exit. Many fans leave after the podium, and the roads are slow for hours. Some prefer to stay for the post-race atmosphere and leave later in the evening. A chauffeur lets you choose either without worrying about the last train or shuttle.
Combining Silverstone with other stops
Silverstone is close to Oxford and the Cotswolds, so some visitors add a night or a day either side. Our Oxford page shows what that drive looks like, and our best day trips by car guide has other ideas.

Tips for the weekend
Book as soon as you have tickets, because race weekend is the busiest of the year in this part of Northamptonshire. Check the official Silverstone travel page a few days before you go for roadworks, gate times and parking. Take a portable charger, ear protection and layers, because the circuit is open and exposed. And agree a meeting point with your chauffeur that you can both find at the end of a long day.
